Hi Steven, I met this fellow at AH many years ago perched on Ixora bush under the Butterfruit Tree beside the geriatric ward.
So strikingly golden with its long furry floss! Dont know its name.
Cheers!

Hi Angie,
Yes was also on Ixora at AH, but cant confirm if is hostplant...possibly.
I found and bred plenty cocoons found on the entire row of this tree along Brickland Rd in early Feb '10 do you know the tree id ? They were either completely or almost all defoliated, with no sign of any cat seen, but managed to get an expert to id the moth.
Now 2 months later I get to see the cat at AH putting them all together as found in http://ccs-hk.org/DM/butterfly/Lymantri ... eldii.html
Enjoy the pix.
Steven

If you are a member of the Malayan Nature Society, you would have received the latest issue of the Malayan Naturalist on the write out of Calliteara horsefieldii, the caterpillar causing stinging problems in northern Malaysian states
