DESCRIPTION:Open to the Public \nJoin experienced guides from NSS Bird Group in exploring the core area of Kranji Marshes Nature Park.  The paths and hides here offer excellent views across the freshwater marshes.  Birding highlights include residents such as the Red-wattled Lapwing\, Changeable Hawk Eagle and Gray-headed Fish Eagle and winter visitors such as the Common and Black-capped Kingfisher.  Meeting time is at 7.30 am at Sungei Buloh Wetland Centre Visitor Centre and a hired bus will ferry the group to the start of the walk at Turut Track. We are seeking dedicated volunteers to join our team of co-facilitators of our Forest Clean-up at Pulau Ubin! This facilitator role is essential for creating a smooth and impactful experience\, empowering participants to make a positive difference in Singapore’s natural environment. \nAbout the Workshop\nOur Forest Clean-up Training Workshop will prepare you to be a facilitator to co-lead the Pulau Ubin activity. This workshop will prepare you to lead participants as well as gain skills in conservation facilitation. You will also be taught how to introduce participants to essential topics like climate change\, the impact of litter\, deforestation and habitat fragmentation\, responsible nature etiquette\, the importance of mangroves\, and humanity’s deep reliance on nature. Most importantly\, you’ll help empower participants to leave with practical ways they can make a difference in their own lives. \nRole of the Facilitator\nAs a Forest Clean-up Facilitator\, you’ll play a key role in guiding participants through a meaningful conservation experience at Pulau Ubin. Your responsibilities will include:\n• Leading and Engaging: Leading the group on designated route\, share insights on conservation topics\, and encourage active participation.\n• Educating: Introduce participants to important environmental issues\, such as climate change\, litter impact\, and the importance of mangrove ecosystems.\n• Inspiring Action: Empower participants with practical steps they can take to make a difference in their everyday lives.\n• Ensuring Safety: Monitor the group’s safety\, follow established protocols\, and be prepared to address any issues.\n• Promoting Responsible Etiquette: Model and encourage respect for nature by teaching responsible behavior and minimizing human impact on the environment.\n• Being an NSS Ambassador: Promoting our membership and encouraging volunteerism with the society.\nAs a facilitator\, you’ll play a direct role in fostering a deeper understanding of and commitment to nature conservation. \nQualifications\nWe are looking for volunteers who:\n•     Have a genuine interest in nature and biodiversity.\n•     Are comfortable taking on a leadership role\n•     Are team players\n•     Are comfortable interacting with diverse groups of people\n•     Have friendly and helpful dispositions\n•     Ideally\, have coastal clean-ups experience\, though this is not a strict requirement.\n•     Are enthusiastic about learning and sharing knowledge. \nTraining and Support\nAt Nature Society Singapore\, we believe in empowering our volunteers. Rohan is also the author of nine books (including the Penguin publications ‘Green Humour for a Greying Planet’\, ‘Naturalist Ruddy’\, and ‘Sea Ice Now You Don’t’) and has won awards by UNDP\, Sanctuary Asia\, WWF International\, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Bangalore Literature Festival for his work. He is notorious for rolling up into a ball like a pangolin to avoid answering the phone or meeting people.

SUMMARY:Migratory Bird Walk at Kranji Marshes

We will be involved in every single step of the rewilding activity which includes manual processing of grass & weed clearance followed by planting some of our native trees along the rail corridor. The aim of this project is to fulfil our goal of having the Rail Corridor as a conduit for plants and wildlife and to provide continuous canopy cover. \nParticipants need to be physically fit: able to lift at least 10kg and able to withstand the hot sun outdoors and be well on the event day. Come spend time watching and videoing butterflies here.On a hot sunny day\, can expect to see the Autumn Leaf\, Silver Forget-me-not\, Lemon and Orange Emigrant\, Plain Tigers\, Leopards\, Rustic\, Grey Pansies\, Common and Broad banded Sailors\, and a recent new comer\, the Julia Heliconia\, all residents at the park. Ocassionally also the Dark Cerulean\, Apefly and Common Birdwing will make their appearance. A total of over 70 speices have been recorded.Participants are to be well on the day of the activity\, and must wear a mask if they are coughing or sneezing.
