Before guiding trips to Manu National Park in Peru, William Boehm spent four months exploring the Peruvian mountains and Manu between1980 to 1982. He taught tropical ecology workshops at Explorama lodge, west of Iquitos, from 1997 to 1998 with Dr David Duke and the late Dr Allan Gentry. William was privileged to be granted permits to enter areas closed off to everyone but researchers. Here, he encountered uncontacted Indians (Maschos) who were aggressive and have attacked tourists as recently as 2015. William will present his rugged exploration of the mountains Cordillera Blanca, Vilcanota and Nevado Ausangate, as well as the Amazon basin including Rio Napo and Manu National Park. His talk will cover the natural history of the Andes, the Amazon forest, Peru’s birds, insects, reptiles and mammals as well as its indigenous Machigunega and Piros Indians.
