Dairy Farm Nature Park is a rustic environment with
multiple trails for hiking, walking, jogging and biking, the 63-hectare DFNP
offers a host of recreational activities and amenities such as a nature trail
and former quarry. This park also offers an well documented information centre as
in Wallace Education Centre which is also the main attraction and, Singapore’s
first field study hub for schools. Formerly a cow shed, the Wallace Education
Centre now houses the Wallace Environmental Learning Lab (WELL), as well as an
interpretative centre, where visitors can learn about the changing landscapes
of Dairy Farm and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve through various exhibits. As it no
longer functions as a dairy farm, there aren’t any real cows at Dairy Farm
Nature Park. Nearby is the Wallace Trail which is named after Alfred Wallace to
honour his contributions to natural science. A contemporary of Charles Darwin,
Wallace is the other "father" behind the theory of evolution. In
1854, Wallace stopped over in Singapore during his journey to the Malay
Archipelago, and collected many species of beetles in the vicinity of the Dairy
Farm site.
