The Malayan tiger, Pathera tigris jacksoni, is a unique species that had once lived in Singapore. Locally extirpated here since 1930 due to human impact, the Malayan tiger now lives in precariously low numbers in Peninsular Malaysia. Since 2015, people living in Singapore have made their way to Pahang for Citizen Action for Tigers (CAT Walk Plus) — a project to protect tigers and restore critical habitat for wildlife.
A CAT Walk Plus, organised by the Malaysian Conservation Alliance for Tigers (MYCAT), is a low impact, guided weekend hike through an area of Malaysia that is critical to the conservation of wildlife. CAT Walkers enjoy a jungle adventure while assisting MYCAT and the authorities to look for signs of illegal activity, spot animal sign and assist in tiger monitoring efforts by retrieving camera trap images.
Come learn more about CAT Walk Plus and how you can be part of the efforts to save the Malayan tiger from extinction.
