Pelagic sharks are poorly understood because of the inherent limitations of studying them in situ. Knowledge that the pelagic Thresher Shark (Alopias pelagicus) regularly visits specific locations in the Philippines presented a unique opportunity to study new aspects of its behaviour and biology, and promote its conservation. Join Dr Simon Oliver as he shares his years of research and field observations. It has led to a better understanding of this amazing animal and its legal protection in many parts of the Philippines. His results have provided insight into managing tourism activities where the shark forages and cleans.
